Tax in Denmark

The tax rate in Denmark is one of the highest in the world as Denmark has a very large public sector that provides a wide range of services to it's citizens, for instance free medical care, schools, nurseries, residential homes for the old etc. The public sector looks after many things that people in other countries often have to pay for themselves, or that may not even be available to the public. Danish society is expensive to run and thus requires a lot of tax funds.
SKAT ("TAX") is the central authority in Denmark responsible for collecting taxes and excising duties. SKAT has 30 tax centres. The centres offer personal service. Or you can contact SKAT by e-mail on www.skat.dk/kontakt or by phone 72 22 18 18.
