Denmark has a tradition for equal access to knowledge and information. This also goes for access to information about treatment and prevention of HIV and AIDS. Unfortunately, the initiatives when it comes to targetting ethnic minority groups has been lacking. Not enough has been done in order to meet the challenges of the cultural and linguistic differences, which often keep persons with an ethnic background other than Danish from using the prevention, counselling, and information options available in Danish society.
With the Cross-Over initiative, the AIDS Foundation wishes to strengthen the HIV / AIDS prevention effort in close collaboration and dialogue with ethnic minority groups and organizations.
Knowledge is transmitted differently in different cultures
The core thinking of the Cross-Over initiative is that people from the same culture are better at transmitting HIV / AIDS knowledge and awareness to each other. That is why Cross-Over works with a prevention effort that takes the disease concept and cultural norms of different groups as its starting point. The intention is to give everyone in Denmark - regardless of cultural or linguistic background - equal access to high-quality information and facts on HIV and AIDS.
Cross-over provides organisational, financial, and professional support for groups, associations, and organizations that work with HIV / AIDS prevention.
